Baby project back on track

Following Flo's change in jobs from an Amsterdam to a Den Haag location, the logisitics of continuing IVF treatment in Amsterdam were a little overwhelming. We therefore opted to investigate transferring treatment to Voorburg, just down the road from Den Haag.

We've heard good things about the hospital in Voorburg, but had heard in the past that there was a waiting list for treatment there. We were therefore very surprised (and happy) to hear that they could see us straight away and as a result we went for an intake interview yesterday.

We both felt very relaxed at the hospital. It's a small, refiendly place, unlike Rotterdam's Erasmus hospital (which was neither small or friendly) and Amsterdam (which was friendly enough, but again not particularly small). Our intake interview was with a gyneacologist named Dr. Brandsma. He was one of the founders of the IVF clinic at the hospital, but was now winding down for retirement and not participating any longer in the IVF lab work. He was a very friendly man, full of anecdotes and obviously of the opinion that the patient's wishes are of paramount importance rather than the hospital's. It amused us when he stated that we were crazy for wanting children because they're horrible things, but if that was what the thing between our ears craved for then they would do all that they could to increase the chances of it happening.

So, the ball is rolling again. We gave some blood yesterday to cover the formalities of blood testing and today we made an appointment for some more tests and a further interview with one of the nurses for her to explain the practicalities of the procedure.
