Bat Update

Before going to bed last night, I went to have a look in the box in the garden to see if our visitor was still sleeping in there, but it had flown off to find a more permanent residence.

I received an email back from the local bat expert having sent him a link to the pictures I took and he informed us that our visitor looked like it was a Nathusius' Pipistrelle. After reading about the bat on Wikipedia, I'm tempted to make and mount a bat box in the garden, since one of these little fellas can eat 500 to 1000 mosquitos per night!

Ach, zo ziet hij er best lief uit.... maar ik geloof dat ik ze toch ook liever niet in mijn keuken heb hangen...

Cool! We had a little fruit bat get into our house when I was a kid. I couldn't believe how it could hang upside down from a painted ceiling. What a fun little adventure.
