Before going to bed last night, I went to have a look in the box in the garden to see if our visitor was still sleeping in there, but it had flown off to find a more permanent residence.I received an email back from the local bat expert having sent him a link to the pictures I took and he informed us that our visitor looked like it was a Nathusius' Pipistrelle. After reading about the bat on Wikipedia, I'm tempted to make and mount a bat box in the garden, since one of these little fellas can eat 500 to 1000 mosquitos per night!

Cool! We had a little fruit bat get into our house when I was a kid. I couldn't believe how it could hang upside down from a painted ceiling. What a fun little adventure.
